J. Michael Ivens

Louis Crossley, Jr.Mike Ivens is a shareholder, officer, and director of the firm. His practice emphasizes real estate development, lending, commercial transactions, and business planning. His practice began in 1983, and his experience includes many types of commercial transactions. Among other things, he represents lenders and borrowers in secured transactions and clients who develop or own condominium projects, planned unit developments, resorts, subdivisions, offices, and retail centers.


Mr. Ivens also represents issuers of securities in private placements, buyers and sellers of real property and of business assets or equity, landlords, tenants, and owners of operating companies. He often represents clients in negotiation of transactions, preparation of contracts, and closing of transactions.

Mr. Ivens has represented numerous business entities, both large and small, and individuals.

Mr. Ivens is a former chairman of the Real Estate Law Section of the Tennessee Bar Association. He was a member of the Tennessee Bar Association Special Committee on Opinion Standards. He also was a member of, and reporter for, the State Bar of Arizona Corporate, Banking, and Business Law Section Subcommittee on Rendering Legal Opinions in Business Transactions.

Mr. Ivens received a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, cum laude, from the University of Tennessee in 1980. He obtained his Juris Doctor, cum laude, from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 1983. While in law school, Mr. Ivens was a member of Tennessee Law Review and Student Tribunal. From 1983 to 1988, he practiced law with Fennemore Craig, P.C. in Phoenix, Arizona. He joined the firm in 1988 and became a shareholder on January 1, 1990. He was born in 1958, in Rockwood, Tennessee.
